Merchant Processing Options
The right pricing model can matter as much as the rate. We’ll explain your options in plain English and help you pick the one that fits.
Cash discount
Card prices include a service fee and customers who pay cash get a discount. This can bring your processing cost close to zero when it’s set up and posted correctly.
Surcharging
A capped fee is added to credit card transactions only, within card-brand rules and state law. Debit cards can’t be surcharged, so setup details matter.
Interchange-plus
You pay the card brands’ actual cost plus a fixed, transparent markup. It’s often the fairest model for established businesses with steady volume.
Flat rate
One simple percentage on every transaction. Easy to understand, but it often costs more as volume grows.
What we review
- Effective rate and markup over cost
- Monthly, annual, PCI and statement fees
- Equipment leases and contract terms
- Funding speed and chargeback handling
